Jason watched as the cadet's exited security, making their way to the bridge. The damage to security had been the worse, he had come across thus far. He could only imagine what the rest of the ship was looking like right now. Those who were injured and didn't have anyone around to help them out. Hopefully engineering and operations were already on the task, but those would be the next stops to ensure that everyone was doing what needed to be done. It was at that moment, that he really wanted to check in on his own family. But they were on the deck beneath the bridge and from what he could tell passing by that deck, that he had remain intact with little damage. Sakura would know what do and how to get a hold of him, if things should come to that. Hopefully everything was alright with the daycare. It was times like this, that he regretted not removing all civilians from the ship.
Elias appears from a jefferies tube junction, straining as he pulls himself out of the tubes that were not built for someone of his stature and bulk. He looks up at Jason as he stood and brushed off his armor vest.
"Commander" He greeted professionally as he stood, shaking his fur and hair out.
Looking at Elias, the Commander had no clue how someone his size wasn't claustrophobic. "I take it everything is good at the center?"
“For the moment but we’ll probably need to include them in any evac plans if it comes to that. For now, they’re safe” Elias said as finish shaking his fur out. Brushing his hands and straightening his uniform he gave his full attention to the Commander.
“My initial observations is that we’ve taken catastrophic damage to the ship. We’ve got lots of blown conduits and junctions. Frankly I’m surprised we’re still structurally intact
"From the sounds of things, that structurally intact part might not last for too long," Jerome brought up. "Hopefully we can figure out the entire condition of the ship sooner than later. But something is definitely off."
“I’m surprised she held up. Ambassador Class ships are a bit…flimsy compared to one of the newer Cruisers. Still we need to be thinking about if she can’t be repaired. From the look of things, the engineer is going to have their work cut out for them.” Elias elaborated.
Pulling out a PADD that he brought along, Reeves started jotting down the visible damages as they made their way down the corridor. "The Ambassador classes have been around for over thirty years. Gotten us through several conflicts and wars over the last few decades. Plus, this one survived a run in with the Borg twice. It's more than anyone else can say."
"True, Commander but I am not confident of a third without major repairs and refit. What we need is a combat cruiser and what we have is an explorer. Right now, we need to be thinking outside the box when dealing with the Borg." Elias notes.
"They seem to be damn near invincible, so fighting them, in my opinion needs to be asymmetrical and outside the box."
"I highly agree," the first officer replied. "Honestly I would like to get my hands on one of these Borg. Might make getting some answers from them easier, if they didn't have those ships and technology to hide behind." He nodded to Elias to follow him, exiting security to check out operations next. "We have a heavy cruiser, which is great in battle. And as you know Starfleet doesn't focus on combat cruisers. Though I must admit, that a strictly combat cruiser might be extremely helpful."
“Then if we can’t find one, we have to make Jane one. Focus on getting shields, weapons and armor up to par and improved. Find out what makes the Borg tick and use it to our advantage.” Elias elaborated further.
"Turning the Jane Addams into a full blow warship," Jason responded while scratching the side of his head. Everything you said, I am in agreement with. But developing all new weapons takes time. We don't even know if Starfleet has even started to work on anything."i
"I'm thinking more hull reinforcement, shield upgrades and possibly working on adapting the phasers."
Reeves nodded in agreement. "Remodulating shields helped out a little while, before the Borg adapted. Coming with a system where part of the shied upgrades could involve remodulating as well. Hull reinforcement is definitely a must as well.
"Then I say we have work to do, don't we Commander?" Elias commented.
"Let's do this."
